This morning, the California Privacy Protection Agency (“CPPA”) announced that Minnesota and New Hampshire have joined the Consortium of Privacy Regulators, a bipartisan initiative announced in April to implement and enforce state privacy laws across the country. With the addition of two new states, a total of ten different privacy regulators are now part of this nationwide collaboration.
Minnesota and New Hampshire enacted their states’ comprehensive data privacy statutes last year.
The CPPA’s press release states that participating regulators will share expertise and resources, as well as coordinate efforts to investigate potential violations of applicable laws.
“We’re entering a new era of enforcement as state privacy laws continue to harmonize and expand.” – Michael Macko, head of enforcement at the CPPA.
This expansion comes shortly after the CPPA announced a joint investigative sweep focused on compliance with consumer requests to opt out of the sale of personal information in collaboration with the Attorneys General of California, Colorado, and Connecticut – states that are also part of the Consortium.
